What I Loved: Of Curses and Kisses is a delightful reimagining of Beauty and the Beast with a good splash of Romeo and Juliet. Indian Princess, Jaya Rao, ends up at St. Rosetta’s Academy in America after scandalous pictures of her little sister get splashed across the media. She believes the loathsome British aristocrat, Grey Emerson, is at fault. The Rao and Emerson families have been clashing since the 1800s when an Emerson ancestor stole a sacred ruby from a Mysuru temple and the Rao family cursed their line to end.
She implements a plan of revenge upon learning that Grey happens to also go to St. Rosettas.
She puts on her best flirting skills to crack his brooding demeanor and break his heart. Several hearts do get broken along the way. It also looks like Jaya's ruby flower necklace that keeps inexplicably losing gemstones is slowly counting down the days he has left to live.
Only with the courage to understand others and break through the traditions and expectations of the family do they both have a chance to mend their broken hearts.
Final Verdict: This is a unique fairytale reimagining. It is sure to satisfy those that love good enemies to lover’s slow-burn romance with a fairytale ending. The story does not end on a cliffhanger. It is also exciting to note that the next book in the series is already available and features other friends Jaya met at Rosetta's academy.
