Oh My Affogato! is the kind of story that feels like a plane ticket you didn’t know you needed (at least that's what it felt like to me).

This story follows Soraya on a post graduation trip to the Amalfi Coast, where she is determined to turn her messy situationship with Wes into something real. She goes in with a goal and a very specific vision of how everything is supposed to play out.

Of course, nothing actually goes according to her plan. What starts as a fun getaway with her best friends quickly turns complicated. Soraya is juggling secrets, trying to hold onto a version of love she has already built up in her head, while everything around her starts to shift. The tension between her loyalty to her friends and her fixation on Wes adds a layer of drama that feels very real for that stage of life.

Then there is Nico, who completely disrupts everything. He is genuine and impossible to ignore, even when Soraya tries to. Their dynamic brings a softer, more grounded energy to the story, especially compared to the chaos tied to Wes. Watching Soraya slowly question her own expectations and what she actually wants is where the book really shines.

The setting is one of the strongest parts. The descriptions of Italy feel vivid and immersive, from the food to the scenery to the small, everyday moments that make the trip feel alive. It is not just a backdrop, it becomes part of Soraya’s growth.

The story leans into messy emotions, friendships that get strained, and the reality that sometimes the person you chase is not the person who is right for you. It is fun and light in many moments, but it also does not shy away from the uncomfortable parts of growing up and figuring yourself out.

This is a perfect summer read. It fits best when you want something warm and full of that carefree vacation energy. Reading it in late spring or summer makes it hit even harder because the atmosphere matches the story so well. It feels like sunshine vibes and figuring things out in real time.
