Once Upon A Broken Heart is a heartwarming story about fairy-tales and happily ever after. The story is the first book of the second series. The story is about Evangeline going to Jacks’s church to mend a broken heart. Jacks offers her a deal, but she soon discovers bargaining with Jacks is a dangerous game. His plans will either end with a happily ever after, or an extreme tragedy. This book is exciting, heartwarming and full of love.
Evangeline is the main character of this fairy-tale story. Evangeline has rose gold hair, and believes true love exists. As she bargains with Jacks to fix her heartbreak, she discovers who she is, and who to trust. At the same time, Jacks knows what he wants, and needs Evangeline to help. Jacks does help Evangeline, but not in the way she expects. Jack introduces her to Apollo, and it was love at first sight. Then the night of the wedding, tragedy struck. Evangeline hates Jacks, but needs to learn to work with him. As the two of them work together they learn to trust each other to fix everything.
Jacks is a fate, known as the Prince of Hearts. He is known for his heartbreak and a tragic past. His curse is in his kiss, when he kisses anyone on the lips they die, except for his soulmate. He had other powers, especially with emotions. When Evangeline walked into his church, he knew that she could be useful to him. He made a deal with her, but then things went wrong. He must now trust Evangeline to get themselves out of a mess.
The writing style is written in 3rd person, but mainly focuses on Evangeline and what she went through with Jacks. The theme is Believe that things will get better, and they will. The detail of everything between the characters and setting is phenomenal. They describe what the world around them looks like, and it really makes you feel like you're in the book.
Overall Once Upon a Broken Heart is a great book about the importance of believing, and learning about the power of love. I recommend this book to middle school students and high school students, or anyone that wants a great romantic fantasy.
