What worked: Creepy atmospheric thriller set in the ocean. Beautiful descriptions of the sea mixed with terrifying supernatural elements. I was hooked!

This fast-paced mystery goes back and forth in time when Phoebe "Phibs" Ray first meets Gabe, the Florida Keys dive shop owner's son, and the horrific secret that changed both of them in more ways than one.

This novel pulls readers in with mesmerizing scenes of the beauty of the underwater sea cave and the subtle horrors that awake those who venture inside.

Phibs is that girl who lives on the other side of the tracks while Gabe, his brother Will, Isabel, and Lani, are the wealthy kids. Phibs struggles to 'fit' into this group. The chemistry between Gabe and Philbs is real. She knows that the group's latest adventure is the last one before they go off to college. Only she plans to stay with her ill grandmother.

The tension of being underwater and the horror of the changes that come over Phibs and Gabe build until the final resolution. Secrets and betrayals are revealed. Through it all the teens find there's truth in a so-called urban legend.

Chilling psychological horror at its best. Be prepared to be swept off into the ocean secrets with a cast of engaging characters.
