Since this book was only 195 pages it was a very fast read. I liked the way Block described each character and the comparisons she makes which made it easier for me to picture them in my mind. I thought the book was a good take at vampires, it wasn't gory or violent but very dark and a little melancholic. Charlotte is telling her life story and everything that she's lived for a century in short details and flashbacks. She hates her life for being a vampire and considers herself a monster. The book even though it answers your questions about Charlotte, it felt to me like I was reading a short story. I didn't connect with the characters, but I think I would've liked some of them. In my opinion it could have been a little longer. Maybe a little more character development. I still enjoyed it and liked the ending. It was a fun read but don't think I will feel the urge to read it again. I also want to add that the book does have some sexual content and bad language.
