The focus of Pretty Tough is the rivalry between two sisters. Boy was this book perfect for me. While me and my sister do not have the same type of competition between the sisters in this book, I could relate completely.
The dialogue, especially the fights, between the sisters was right on. It was like reliving the fights me and my sister had when we were teenagers. It was so real, it's hard to describe how accurate it is. If you don't have a sister close in age, reading this book will give you an accurate portrayal of how it is.
I think I also learned something about my relationship with my sister from reading Pretty Tough. For me, that is one of the marks of a good book--the ability to teach the reader something or show them something that is already right in front of them.
I was impressed that Liz was able to keep the pace of the novel fast, filled with actions and scenes that propelled the story forward without making it seem rushed or underdeveloped.
I also enjoyed the soccer aspect of the novel. I don't play it or watch it but I found the game scenes to be exciting. Liz did a wonderful job of including the games without them detracting from the main story.
I would definitely recommend this novel for anyone looking for a quick, light, and fun read!
