            My book review is about Seekers: The Quest Begins by Erin Hunter. It is about three bears whose lives get changed forever. There are three different stories, but are all connected somehow. It is the first book in a series of six, which I havent read yet. Erin Hunter writes these books and the Warriors books because she is inspired by the ferocity of natures creatures and respects them. She enjoys creating explanations for why animals act the way they do.

            Kallik, a young polar bear, plays happily with her mother and brother, Taqqiq on the ice. Shes lived there her whole life, learning how to catch seals. A tragedy, however, causes Kallik to get separated from them, and must learn to survive on her own. Toklo is a brown bear cub living in the forest with Oka, his mother, and his sick brother, Tobi. Oka gives Tobi all the attention, making Toklo jealous. She hurries her cubs to the river, so they can eat fish. In a zoo, Lusa lives with the other black bears. She hears stories about the wild from her older friend Stella, and dreams of going there someday. There are trees as far as you can see; reaching in every direction, farther than any bear can run in a day. That is just one of the stories Lusa hears.

            This is a well written, fantasy book for probably grades 4-7.The themes in this book include death, traveling and hope. Because there are three different plot lines, there is lots of suspense at the end of chapters. Erin Hunter has also written the Warriors series, which I have also read and highly recommend. It hasnt won any awards, but is still very good. These books are from the animals point of view, and what they call the things us humans use is very creative and funny. I highly recommend these books to people who like books about animals.

When I began to read this book, I was very unamused. I thought, This is going to be another one of those clan books. Not that I didn't like the Warriors Series also by Erin Hunter, but after a while, they got boring. I was surprised by this book. In a way, it was the opposite of Warriors. There were no clans. It's every bear for itself. Well, actually, usually, the mothers helped their cubs.
I was very intrigued how Erin Hunter rotated from the three bears whenever the most exciting events were happening; that enraged and delighted me at the same time, because then I'd realize that I was going to continue the next wonderful part of the other bear's adventure.
First, there is Kallik, a polar bear who has a brother named Taqiq. Her mother dies, and she is separated from Taqiq. Will she ever find him?
Second, there is Lusa, a black bear living in a zoo. Her life isn't much adventure until she meets Oka, a brown bear.
And last, there is Toklo, a grizzly bear, with his brother Tobi and his mother Oka. He feels as if Oka doesn't really care about him, as Oka always takes care of Tobi, because Tobi is very sick. When something happens to Tobi, his mother abandons him.
Lusa befriends Oka before Oka dies, and discovers about her sons. Lusa promised Oka that she'd tell Toklo that she loved him too.
Meanwhile, Kallik is searching for a place where the ice never melts.
Only reading this amazing book will tell you what happens to them! I personally adored Toklo the most, and I felt like crying whenever his mother was harsh on him. I really liked this book and I'm waiting for the sequel, as always. =D
