Short story anthologies by authors who are used to writing novels are usually less-than-stellar, but this one really takes the cake when it comes to badness. Ironically enough, it's sponsered by a pro-literacy campaign, with the stipulation that each story include mention of a book. Well, the stories here did not inspire me to read. With the exception of M.T. Anderson's haunting tale of an abandoned ship, which was quite good, and passable contributions by Jennifer L. Holm and Ellen Conford, the stories here were insipid, boring, pointless, and/ or senseless. It's unfortunate that an anthology with a worthy purpose counldn't have delivered more.
