Consumed with a need to find out what "soof" means--and to find a grandmother she's never met--Heidi leaves her mother in the care of their agoraphobic neighbor and embarks on a cross-country journey for answers. Heidi has a very interesting life; between trying to communicate with her mother and dealing with her neighbor's phobia, she's been pretty sheltered. She survives on the road by "reading" people's eyes and relying on her remarkable luck to win money at slot machines.

This is a fascinating story with a very likable heroine. You will be charmed by Heidi and be rooting for her on her entire journey.
