This book is very well written and easy to read, full of magic, treachery and, true to form, is set in a fairy tale kingdom (although it doesn't stay that way). This book is unlike any of Stephen King's previous work since he wrote this book for his daughter when she commented how scary all of his other books were. Although it's a fantasy story aimed at teenage/young adult readers it still has a bit of a dark side, which you would expect from King.

The story revolves around Prince Peter, heir to the throne, and the target of an evil wizard's treachery. The wizard's name is Flagg (as in Randall Flagg from The Stand - crossovers are a Stephen King trademark). Without giving away too much of the story, Peter is framed by Flagg for a horrible crime and sentenced to life in prison. His younger brother, Thomas, then becomes king and the kingdom is nearly ruined since it's really Flagg calling all the shots behind the throne. All the while, Peter is planning his escape so he can reclaim and restore his rightful kingdom.

An excellent read, I would recommend this book to anyone, regardless of age.
