Jessica is now living the charmed Hollywood life, complete with a mansion in Beverly Hills and a pool. All of this is due to her sister Evas starring role in the hit sitcom, Two Sisters. Eva and Jess get along great, Eva is always in the spotlight, but thats perfectly fine by shy Jessica. Every day Jessica hangs out on the set of Two Sisters with Eva, and Jess thinks she must be the only person on set who isnt looking for a big break.
But life on set isnt as perfect as it appears. Somebody on set is spreading lies about Eva to the tabloids, and Jessica needs to help her sister get to the bottom of this mystery. Jessica suspects Lavender and Paige, the two other female stars of the sitcom of trying to sabotage Evas career. But there are other suspects too, like Evas publicist Keiko and Jeremy Jones, the male star of the show. The mystery gets more serious when Evas $15,000 Carolina Herrera dress disappears. Jessica really needs to be alert if shes going to catch the rat and shes willing to do anything it takes to help her sister!
Jessica and Evas sisterly love is a testament to true friendship, uncorrupted by the greed and shallow standards of Hollywood. The Hollywood Sisters: Backstage Pass is a fun read that will have preteen girls hooked. I really recommend this book to any preteens who arent very interested in reading, but love the glamour of the entertainment industry. Mary Wilcox does a great job with Jessicas character; shes so easy for ordinary girls to relate to, even though shes been thrust into this Hollywood lifestyle.
My only complaint is that Evas career never really seemed threatened by the gossip and stolen dress. Throughout the book, everyone seemed to love Eva, regardless of what the tabloids wrote. I think Wilcox could have done a better job emphasizing how fickle Hollywood is and created a little more excitement if Evas career really seemed to be on the ropes. Nevertheless, this is a great series for preteen girls, and Im looking forward to reading the next book!
