The Jules Verne Prophecy is a middle-grade mystery set in Paris, and a young man is taking a class all about Jules Verne. One day his book for the final test is stolen on the street, and he needs a replacement to take the test. The Jules Verne book he finds to take the test is unlike anyone seen before and sets Own and his newfound friend on a quest to decipher clues and learn about this famous author who predicted so many things in his novels that are now commonplace.
The author did a fantastic job sharing various things about Jules Verne while keeping the information appropriate for the age group the book targets. I have never been to Paris nor speak French, but I felt immersed in the book and did not feel lost when French phrases were introduced into the story. The chapters are nice and short, and the illustrations accompanying the story make for an excellent feast for the eyes.
Final Verdict:
A tremendous middle-grade adventure story with well-researched Jules Verne Facts that make for a great intro to the author's works. I felt like I was in Paris with these kids deciphering the clues alongside them. I also like that we are in a foreign land for the main character and that he is interpreting the world through the eyes of a tourist.
