All Megan wants is to have a quiet Christmas holiday without any drama. But that wish is dashed when her headmistress gets Megan's father to host a huge New Year Eve's ball for the Chinese Ambassador. Megan worries that someone else will find out about the secret that is beneath their home. Also she hasn't had the best of luck with houseguests. The last one ended up dead.
Then she receives a mysterious gift, alerting her that someone else knows of Library of Athena and her connection to it. Now it's up to Megan to find out who's behind the gift and also to stop someone else from invading not only the library but her world as well.
This is book three of the Library of Athena series. This is a fun series that is Harry Potter meets Cornelia Funke. Megan is a protagonist that not only is the librarian to a mysterious and magical library but also worries about getting a date to a dance and whether or not she'll fit in. Norris does a great job drawing on Chinese folk tales and mythology. Another big plus of this series is how she doesn't have too much backstory dump but weaves in the previous adventures in such a way that new readers of this series won't be lost.
Norris also does a great job putting together clues on how to get out of one of the ancient books. The clues build up to a very satisfying conclusion that's surprising in a good way.
Fantasy fans will enjoy this latest addition to the Library of Athena series. The ending leaves it open for another book and confrontation. Can't wait to read more!
