The Princess in the Hound is a story of subtle romance with a dash of intrigue.

George lives in a kingdom where animal magic is forbidden. But the thing is, he has animal magic. And not only that, he's the prince of said kingdom. However, he's not alone as his mother also has animal magic and she takes care of him. Until she dies, leaving George alone with his father. George finds himself becoming a different person, one who finds duty and responsibility the most important. So important, in fact, that he allows duty to dictate his marriage. He is to marry Princess Beatrice in order to bring the two rival kingdoms together.

Beatrice on the other hand, has isolated herself from others. Her father hates her and constantly mocks her. Her only companion is her faithful hound. Can these two individuals bond together?

The story starts off slow but builds up speed as we learn of the poisoning of George's father and the chase to catch the poisoner.

This book had a few surprises which only made the book better. The book was well written and the characters were well-drawn out. I can't wait to read the next book, The Princess and the Bear.
