"The Second Bend in the River" is based on a myth (supported by some facts) about the romance between the great Native American chief, Tecumseh, and a young white settler, Rebecca Galloway. Told in Rebecca's voice, from the time she's a child until she's a married woman, Rinaldi creates a wonderful and heartbreaking fronteir romance between two very different people who obviously love each other very much. Using historical facts about Tecumseh and the Galloway family, Rinaldi leaves readers with the hopeful feeling that this was a true story. A must-read for all historical fiction fans.
