This is one wild ride of a book. The Severed Tower is a young adult science fiction novel about Mira, Holt, Max, and Zoey who will do anything to get to the heart of the Strange Lands.

What did I enjoy? The captivating characters make the story memorable and left me wanting to read the rest of the trilogy. The world building in The Severed Tower exceeded my expectations. While I was reading, it felt like I was there. There were new characters and elements to learn and it kept the story fresh. What I liked best was that a lot of the questions created in the first book were answered here.

What left me wanting more? The multiple plots and subplots made it hard keeping up with the story in some places. J. Barton Mitchell does include some flashback chapters to help keep the reader informed of previous events. However, the narration hops into so many characters’ perspectives that sometimes get confusing. Although these elements can make the book difficult to read, overall, The Severed Tower is a good story.

Readers will enjoy the Conquered Earth series if they like: Science Fiction, Post Apocalyptic stories , and a little romance.
