This book was alright, but I thought it was somewhat melodramatic. I thought the ploit was decent, but I think it could have been written better. I do like the ending when it shows that she got out of an abusive relationship with Paul and started a new relationship. I think the character Paul was a little too melodramatic with the Dead Dad letters and how easily angry he got. Overall I thought the book was decent and I would recommend people read it, however it wasn't my favorite. I don't doubt Patrick Jones's writing talent I just think this book in particular could have been written a little differently.

Johanna is the stereotypical genius. Paul is the exact opposite, a bad boy who likes girls who are dumb and hot. But when he can't get the girl he's had his eye on for years, he falls back on Johanna. Johanna takes him whole heartedly. They start going out and everything is fine for a little, but then then Paul starts to get a little rough, the occasional poke or hit just hard enough to leave a bruise, and things only start to go downhill from there. Will Johanna ever leave him or will she stay with him until the end?
I didn't really like this book. I just sat there and thought of Dreamland by Sarah Dessen the whole time. It was pretty much the same book. I hated that Paul just went to Johanna because someone else rejected him. It felt like he was using her, and he was. It disgusted me that she couldn't see that too. And it wasn't even like the cover was all that attractive either. I really did not like it at all. I wouldn't recommend this book. Although, if you like the subject of teenage dating violence then go for it, I just felt like it was a little boring.

Things Change was an amazing book. its a fast read and it had my full attention. Its a very important book for teens of any age to read. its about a girl adn a guy that get into a relationship. the guy turns out to be very abusive and the girl doesnt know what to do because she loves him. the girl has a hard time making a decion but she finally does. This is a good book to make young readers realize that these things realy do happen in relationships, sadly. It can show young readers the signs of an abusive relationship and make them realize that they need to go for help if they are in one. it is a very sad but good truthful book. Many teens go through this kind of abuse from there loved one, its a big problem in this world today. i would sugest this book to anyone. i would recoment it to ages 13 and up.
