This book is about Tomikazu, Tomi for short, a japanese boy living with his family in Hawaii. It was during the time of World War II, when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. His family had to hide all their japanese things so the army people wouldn't kill them. They also had a law that if the boats don't have an American flag they would shoot the people. Since Tomi's father was a fisherman and he didn't have an American flag so they shot him.
