Still hunted by Venus, Unico befriends a sickly girl imprisoned by an evil robotic machine.
Lost in space and time, Unico awakens in an abandoned factory town. Saved by the resourceful mouse, Garapachi, Unico befriends Chiko, a human girl. But he soon learns that a sinister force is at work in the town's factory, bent on killing all living things. Meanwhile, Venus unleashes a fierce hunter who will stop at nothing to find Unico. Can Unico save Chiko? Can the West Wind save Unico?

Conceived anew by Eisner-nominated author Samuel Sattin and Eisner-winning artist team Gurihiru, and developed in collaboration with Tezuka Productions, UNICO: Hunted is the second volume in a groundbreaking reboot of a beloved manga by Astro Boy creator Osamu Tezuka, the "God of Manga." With striking full-color artwork and reading left to right in the Western comics style to match the original manga, UNICO is a brilliant series featuring storytelling at its best. Join Unico on an unforgettable journey!

Once again, Unico awakens alone in a strange new place with no memories but his name and a noble spirit that urges him to defend Garapachi the mouse and Chico, an ailing human girl, from the sinister force which has laid waste to their world. Known as the Mother, it rules from within a massive factory-like fortress with armies of drones and minions to send out and stop interlopers like Unico from threatening its control. Unico will need help from each of his new friends, the mysterious fey, and the powers within him that he doesn't fully understand to save this world. Little does he know, while Unico has forgotten the celestial forces that brought him here, Venus is still plotting to capture the little unicorn and consume his power...

This second volume brings Unico's signature pluck and spirit to a whole new world and cast of characters. The mouse family is adorable, and the minions patrolling town are the right amount of sinister spooky for the semi-urban dystopian backdrop. While I missed Chloe the cat and others from the first volume, it hints that she'll return in future volumes, and I soon came to love the new faces in this one. The fey are particularly cool - think mystical ninja foxes - and it'd be neat to see them again. I love the blend of scifi and fantasy elements, with Unico's magical powers and the colorful fey fighting against both metal drones and an alien on a giant moth from the depths of space

The conflict with Venus and her chosen hunter lurks like an ominous cloud, but it's not the main focus. It seems that Unico has many adventures ahead, so we may not be getting many answers on the celestial side any time soon.

Readers can start the series with this volume, although they'll likely want to go back to the first volume to see where it all began.
