I absolutely loved this book! I related so well because the main chracter was just like me! Mara Valentine is the perfect student and daughter, a vegan, and is in a race for senior class valedictorian. Then things start to get rocky when her niece, who is also 1 year younger than her, comes to stay with her and her parents. Her name is V and she's slutty and smokes pot. When things seem like they can't get any worse, Mara starts to fall for her older boss at work, who also happens to be the lust of her friend Claudia. How can Mara hide her true feelings and not seem like a backstabber?
Mara is the total overachiever and is ready to go to Yale. But now she feels like she's missing something with her parents on her back about school and college 24/7. Maybe she needs some time to be a regular, carefree teen for once, before heading off to Yale. And she starts to find that she and V are actually a lot like, in a good way. This book absolutely captured me. The characters are so distinct and everything is unpredictable but realistic also, which is what I loved most about this book. Carolyn Mackler is a super author and really knows how to portray teenaged girls of today's world! Read it!
