An amazing book that I am reading is called Warriors Dont Cry by Melba Patillo Beals. When I first saw this book, it did not appeal to me because it is about the desegregation of schools in America, a topic that I had already learned about so much. However, I decided to give it a chance and I am very glad that I did. This is probably the most inspiring book I have read. I thought I knew a lot about how black people used to be treated, but it was entirely different to hear the story of someone who actually experienced it.
The book is about the true story of Melba Patillo Beals and her, and eight other black students triumph to attend an all white school. It obviously is not an easy thing for them to do. The book does a good job of showing you how much work had to be done before they could actually go in to the school. It also shows how Melba had to give up a lot of things, including her social life, just so that she could be safe.
If you are at a hard time in your life and are thinking of giving up, I highly recommend this book. Melba goes through so much and is scared for her life at times, and even though she could have given up at anytime she wanted to, she did not, because she was fighting for something that she truly believed in. This book will teach you so much about life because you can relate it to almost any situation. It will show you how to forgive the most horrible people and how to keep on trying for something that you believe in, despite what other people think.
