"If you are claustrophobic, don't read this book" warns the cover copy. That is for sure. I am still shuddering over the creepiness of what actually did happen to Cass McBride: she was BURIED ALIVE.

When Kyle Kirby's brother David asks Cass out, she refuses. Her refusal is nice (only because she wants him to vote for her for prom queen) but she leaves a note for her best friend, in which she calls David the worst kind of loser. Unfortunately, David picks it up and reads it.

Soon, David has killed himself and Kyle blames Cass. So he punishes her by burying her alive. The timeline skips back and forth, and an entirely new story emerges with startling answers to the question: Who is the villain, here? Is it the girl who shunned the boy? Is it the brother who buried someone alive? Or is it someone else entirely?

Add in the suspense factor (will Cass outwit Kyle and survive?) plus layers of self-discovery for the characters which deepen the plot. I found this book to be discomfiting, creepy--and completely, almost excruciatingly, irresistible. Highly recommended . . .unless you're claustrophic.
