A book that made me want to check under my bed and lock every door in the house!

I dove into Where No Shadow Stays by Sara Hashem, and let me tell you, this YA supernatural horror is an atmospheric, generational curse story. If you love a good grumpy vs. sunshine pairing mixed with bone-chilling stakes, you need this on your TBR immediately.

Why I’m Obsessed:

The Vibes: It’s a perfect blend of a sunny California town and the haunting, ancient mysteries of Egypt. The contrast between Mina’s organized life and the sinister entity following her is great.

The Duo: Mina is our homecoming queen with a hidden past, and Jesse? He’s the local mortician’s son who is basically the definition of hostile loner. Their chemistry is top-tier mostly because Jesse would rather floss with barbed wire than help her. Spoiler: He helps her anyway.

The Horror: This isn't just a spooky story; it’s a deep dive into family secrets and a bloody debt that kept me turning pages until 2 AM.

As a first-generation American myself, I really felt for Mina’s journey of trying to piece together her mother’s history. It’s a fast-paced, terrifying, and emotional ride that proves you can’t always outrun the shadows of your past.

Read if you love: Gothikana, The Jumbies, or anything by Holly Black but with a darker, Egyptian-inspired twist!

Thank you Holiday House and Sara Hashem for sharing Where No Shadow Stays with me!
