Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely #1)
User reviews
I thought that this is a really good book. I really loved all of the descriptions and the faeries. There aren't that many books that use faeries. Aislinn's conflict with the whole having to pretend that she couldn't see faeries was pretty intense. And I loved the way that the prologue started out. I couldn't tell if it was Aislinn's ordeal or what.
I got so mad when Keenan wanted her, because Seth had been with her for so much longer, and I just wanted them to be together, so I was really happy when Keenan and Donia got together and Seth and Aislinn were together. That was great.
Wicked Lovely is pretty good, but I wouldn't say it's as good as Twilight. It's about a girl named Aislin who can see fairies, but she has to pretend that she can't see them or they will take her sight away. Her Grandma can also see fairies and has taught her the rules to advoid them. But what happens when the rules aren't working and a boy fairy talks to her. It also turns out that the boy fairy is a king and wants her to be his queen. This boy is also very handsome. But these fairies aren't like sweet, fiesty TinkerBell alot of these fairies do horrible things. Aislin also has a friend that ends up being her boy friend who seems to be the perfect guy. He has tatoos and lip peircings, and really cares about Aislin. Aislin doesn't know how to handle the fairy stalker, she ends up becoming one. I didn't like how the fairies were bad, I think it could have been better if they were nice. But this book is pretty good. Thats why i give it a 3.
Wicked Lovely is a modern day faerie tale following a teenage girl, Aislinn. Aislinn has been gifted/cursed with the Sight of being able to see through faery glamours, seeing them as they live. Faeries can hide themselves from normal people, but can also reveal themselvs. Secretly, Aislinn, as well as her Grams, can see them. That's how she notices when a court faery starts stalking her.
She finds safety with her best friend Seth, both because he lives in an old train that's made completely of iron (faeries' weakness) and because she just likes his company so much. When the faery starts following her, she confesses her Sight and everything to Seth, even at the risk of him thinking she's insane. Happy to help, Seth starts to help her prepare in case the court faery gets out of hand. He also wants the Sight so he can help.
Keenan is after Aislinn because he believes that she might be the Summer Queen. He's the Summer King, but most of his power was bound by the Winter Queen (aka: his mom). He's tested others who might be the Summer Queen, like Donia, but since none of them were, they succumbed to winter's chill and became painfully cold faeries. Donia is the current Winter Girl, and she wants Keenan to find the Queen for his own sake because she still loves him, even after what he caused her to become.
When Keenan finally intercepts Aislinn, all these characters become part of a confusing web of a story, where Aislinn has to cope with possibly losing her mortality, trying to stay with Seth, and just her safety.
Anone who likes the Twilight Saga, Need, or any other fantasy stories would love Wicked Lovely, so I reccomend it to them. Also, look out for the sequel, Ink Exchange.
Wicked Lovely is a great urban fantasy tale that I fell in love with. The story is of
Aislinn, a girl who has the Sight, meaning she can see faeries. But
these aren't the cute fairies you see in stories - these are dangerous,
and if they ever found out that that Aislinn could see them, she would
be in serious trouble. To only add to her trouble, a faerie from the
faerie court seems to be pursuing her, but she doesn't know why.. add
some romantic troubles with her friend (who she wants to be more with)
Seth, and you've got yourself a yummy novel with fantasy, love,
betrayal and all that good stuff!
The only other novel I've ever read that was urban fantasy and had faeries was The Blue Girl by Charles de Lint and Valiant by Holly Black, so I wasn't really sure what to expect from Wicked Lovely.
I had only heard good things about it, so I picked up it when the
hardcover went on sale at work. My expectations were kind of high, but
not too much. I don't like to be disapointed (like with Twilight...
ugh.) Well, if it's any indication that I liked it, I managed to finish
this book in one sitting! It really is quite a treat.
The story
is one that will grip you almost right away. It's one where everyone
has difficult choices to make; everyone has something to lose,
whichever choice they make. It gave an interesting spin on things,
which was mostly what kept me reading. I was always wondering what
everyone would do, what choices they'd make and what their consequences
would be. In the end, no one gets everything they want, but it's not a
particularly sad or happy ending either. The love stories were also a
nice breathe of fresh air. While Seth might've been a little too
perfect, it was needed to keep Aislinn away from Keenan (the court
faerie who is pursuing Aislinn), and the pairings seem to go against
the grain. Marr seems to set it up to make it so that it would be more
convenient for certain characters to be together, but it doesn't end up
that way.
The characters were also all pretty great too. Aislinn
is not the typical heroine. While she's tough and can hold her own, she
isn't the annoying "I-can-kick-your-ass" character that seems to
sometimes be prevalent in urban fantasy. Yes, she can hold her own, but
Marr still kept her human and kept her vulnerable, which is where Seth
comes in. Like I mentioned before, while he seems a little too perfect,
he's still a likable character that you want to root for. As for some
of the faeries (more specifically Keenan and Donia), it was cool how
they sometimes seemed almost like an enemy, but we get to see their
side and realize they really aren't at all. They had just as much to
lose as Aislinn and Seth. The only character who I had a problem with
was the Winter Queen. She was a little too cookie-cutter for me as far
as bad guys go. The dynamics between the four main characters though
was great to read.
Overall, if you want some fantasy, but
nothing super genre heavy, Marr is the place to go. A great setting,
great story, great characters.. it's a fun read. I'm almost done Ink
Exchange (the companion novel), and I'm all ready excited for the
sequel, Fragile Eternity, coming out at the end of April! I give
Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely a 4/5 rating.

i love this book!most stories with fairies in them sugar coat everything when in the old folktales they are evil.this book shows the strugle on the courts of the summer court and the winter court....which revolves around a girl who happens to have the second sight and knows how evil the sidhe really are
Wicked Lovely is in my list of top 5 books! It simply is amazing! This book captures your interest fast, and keeps it throughout the book. It is about a girl who doesn't know she is a faerie, let alone a faerie queen, and this lead to a love triangle with her "boyfriend" and king. Throughout the book you get different parts of peoples lives and feelings. Also, it's has many unexpected scenes, that just make it all the more intriguing. I loved this book and couldn't put it down. I loved this book for its real feelings of the characters, but also the science fiction. And of course the romance with the love triangle. For fans of the Twilight Saga and/or the Tithe series, these books are definetly for you!
What I liked best about Wicked Lovely was the mystery, the intrigue, the romance, and the characters. I liked how I kept trying to guess who was on whose side Keenans or the Winter Queens and how secrets are uncovered as the story goes on. I also loved the romance that was between Seth and Aislinn. However, I wasnt really sure if Keenan liked her like that and it wasnt until the end of the book that I was like, Oh. Maybe he just likes her as a friend& That part was the only real confusing scene.
Aislinn, a strong yet frightened girl, is someone I truly admire. Shes smart and knows what she should do to avoid danger; however, she will take risks if it means saving her loved ones. In a way, she is like the typical heroine brave, courageous, etc. However, the part where she is cautious and understands the threat of the faeries, is not of the norm of a classic female protagonist.
And Seth, the typical perfect boyfriend, loves Aislinn enough to stick with her even with her special qualities and loves her enough to change a part of him just for her. If there is someone out there like Seth minus the piercings because theyre kind of& *wrinkles nose* - I would totally pounce on him. Who wouldnt?
Keenan. Sigh. Even though hes supposed to be this drop-dead gorgeous faery king, I find him annoying. The fact that he will do anything to get a Summer Queen is already strike one against him. He doesnt care about Aislinns plans or desires. Strike two. The person who he truly likes, he doesnt even have the guts to go after her even when shes hurting and needs help. Strike three. And&youre out! True, he may be a strong king and whatnot, however, I didnt like him. No real compassion except when it favors him and hes a coward. He cant go against anyone to get what he wants especially the Winter Queen. And yes, I understand that he didnt have enough power, however, Im sure he could have thought of something instead of just using hundreds of girls throughout the three centuries to find just one.
Despite Keenans annoyance, Seth and Aislinn totally outweigh him and therefore, I cant wait to get a hold of the next two books in the series! :)
in wicked lovely we follow the story of aislinn. Aislinn can see faeries and has been taught to ignore them for the fear that they will take her away because she has the Sight. then aislinn met keenan and he tries to befreind her but aislinn refuses for she knows who he really is...a faerie. this book is an alluring fantasy that i couldnt put down.
this book was awesome. there i said it. it was classy and mysterious yet sweet and easy to read. you get drawn into the world of the fey and ask yourself if they do really exist. the greatest part about the book is the sublty of the author in presenting the plot. it was really fun reading about the love triangle that prsented itself and seeing how the most random everyday people in your life make you feel special and important.
Fey aren't the sweet little creatures that you always heard they were from the fairy tales of childhood. No one knows this better than Aislinn, who has the rare gift of being able to see the fey, all of the beuaty and unamaginable horrors.
Rule #3: Dont stare at invisible faeries. Aiislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world. Aislinn fears their crueltyespecially if they learn of her Sightand wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.
Rule #2: Dont speak to invisible faeries. Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.
Rule #1: Dont ever attract their attention. But its too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any costregardless of her plans or desires.
Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything. Faery intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in this 21st century faery tale.
Melissa Marr's modern faery tale is romantic, exciting, suspenseful, and fantastical. In her first novel Melissa created a well reaserched teen book that has the ability to keep you reading all through the night. Melissa creates great characters that develope through out the novel that will make you wish that you knew them.
I would recomend this book to anyone that enjoys fantasy, sci-fi, romance, action or adventure.
