“Written in the Stars” by Lee Heart has main character Quinn going away to summer camp not long after her father has passed away. While she thinks her mother wants her out of the house so that her mom can deal with her own grief, all might be quite as it seems. They both need to figure out who they are now that Quinn’s dad is gone, and being away at camp with her friends might be just what Quinn needs to escape, even for a brief time, the sadness that has been encompassing her life.

When she arrives at camp, she loves the fact that she’s with good friends from past years. There is also a new girl, Kayla, who doesn’t really mesh with the other girls, thinking she’s more experienced and Quinn and her friends are too immature for her. Not helping this situation is the fact that Quinn has developed a crush on a new British boy, Harry, and Kayla seems a bit interested in him too.

Quinn doesn’t know what to make of her crush—she doesn’t even know if that’s exactly what’s going on between her and Harry. When he starts being nice to her, she feels happy and looks forward to their spending time together. Between pranks going on in the boys’ and girls’ cabins, worries about losing her best friend just after losing her dad, and trying to decipher the way she feels about Harry and what she should do about it, Quinn finds that her summer is chock full of pre-teen angst, but it might be just what she has to experience to move forward with her life.
