Lauren Holbrook is a twenty-something who is content with her life. Shes got a best friend, Brandon, who loves her in spite of her quirks. She has a fun job as a photographer. She has an addiction to chocolate and coffee that cant be matched. She is happy living at home with her dad. Quite satisfied to leave all the love and romance to other people. Not that shes not interested in watching romance. She can quote Pride and Prejudice and Emma and countless other movies almost verbatim. No, what Lauren is most interested in is matchmaking. She sees perfect couples right and left. She thinks she has quite a knack at playing Cupid. But as Lauren finds out, sometimes God has other ideas. And romance isnt quite as predictable as it seems.

While much of the action takes place in the workplace or at a home group Bible study, readers may notice more than a slight resemblance to Jane Austens Emma. A woman, the youngest, who is left at home to take care of dadbaby himwhile the other sister(s) are married and have kids. A woman who is more determined to see others make a love match than to make one of her own. A woman who claims not to be looking for love and marriage, but who might just find a guy who understands and loves her after all in spite of her flaws.

There is much to enjoy in Miss Match by Erynn Mangum. The characters are fun and lighthearted. There are tons of movie references. (If you love romantic comedies, youll spot some favorites mentioned here I have no doubt.) It is a Christian romance novel, and readers may notice the emphasis on courtshipwith the intention of marriage as the end resultinstead of the typical modern dating style. It is the promising start to what could be a new series. Rematch, the sequel, will be released in October 2007.

The first book in the Lauren Holbrook series starts off with a BANG!
Lauren is a fun character who is easy to relate to. She has many friends
who play off of her wonderfully too and make the story great.

In
this particular book Lauren has started to match people and has been
successful so far. As she starts a new match though, it proves to be
more difficult than usual. She has her friends help her with the task
and sets off to show people who they truly belong with.

Erynn
Mangum
's first novel is beautifully crafted and her Christianity
also shines throughout the story. I don't think I've ever read a book
funnier than this one. Even if you don't usually read Christian fiction,
I recommend this one.

This is only the first in the series too!

This book is about a girl named Sasha that has to get a job and decides to be a professional matchmaker. She sets up a website and helps teens locally get a date with their crush. She is a natural and jumps into each project with dedication until she is asked to help her own crush get a date to the prom with her sister, Maddie. If you like love stories this is a really cute one. Not only is it about high school romance, it also gives you a good laugh.

Another cute read from the Simon Pulse Romantic Comedies! Yay!

This book is FULL ON light entertainment. Miss Match
is bright and comical. I thought that Toliver did great on making all
of the characters witty and realistic. I loved Sasha's character
because she was a character that teenagers would be able to relate to.
Surprisingly, I also liked Sasha's sister, Maddie. I thought that she
was just going to be the cliché cheerleader type, but she was
down-to-earth and had her own problems to deal with.

The friendships and relationships between the characters were typical but they were still compelling and charming.

However, even though Miss Match is entertaining, it still has its weak points. For example, nothing in the book would compel me to remember Miss Match. I didn't find anything in Miss Match
that was captivating or distinct enough to be 'unforgettable' or
unique. Also, I didn't like the whole 'knight' event with Derek. It was
just TOTALLY impractical and non-realistic. I found it absurd and
grotesque.

The Bottom Line: An easy, carefree book that isn't anything special, but nonetheless a fun read. C :-)

One of the cutest book I have ever read. The Simon Romantic Comedies are always very interesting and are a joy to read and Miss Match was no exception.

What I enjoyed about Miss Match was the fun plot and the spunky character, Sasha. Though the plot was pretty typical and kind of cliche, the way Wendy portrayed the whole story was different and fun.

Sasha was extremely spunky. I loved her methods on "matchmaking" others and most of the time, I was cracking up with tears in my eyes. I loved that one scene where she puts gum in the girl's locker so the guy would have an excuse to act all manly and stuff and help the girl. Ahaha. It's amazing how our mind and imagination works.

Derek was so cute. I loved his thinking and his charming skills. Oh, and his eagerness to win the girl he likes/loves. It's so adorable. I especially loved the part where he comes in riding on a horse to ask the girl out for Homecoming. OMG. I think my inner girl self screamed in delight when that happened. Soooo romantic!

I even liked reading about Maddie because she's actually really sweet despite the fact that she's one of the most popular girl in school AND that she's a cheerleader. She loves her sister, Sasha, and it really showed through her actions.

Overall, Miss Match was adorable and I definitely would love to see more of Wendy's stuff.
