Lauren Holbrook is a twenty-something who is content with her life. Shes got a best friend, Brandon, who loves her in spite of her quirks. She has a fun job as a photographer. She has an addiction to chocolate and coffee that cant be matched. She is happy living at home with her dad. Quite satisfied to leave all the love and romance to other people. Not that shes not interested in watching romance. She can quote Pride and Prejudice and Emma and countless other movies almost verbatim. No, what Lauren is most interested in is matchmaking. She sees perfect couples right and left. She thinks she has quite a knack at playing Cupid. But as Lauren finds out, sometimes God has other ideas. And romance isnt quite as predictable as it seems.
While much of the action takes place in the workplace or at a home group Bible study, readers may notice more than a slight resemblance to Jane Austens Emma. A woman, the youngest, who is left at home to take care of dadbaby himwhile the other sister(s) are married and have kids. A woman who is more determined to see others make a love match than to make one of her own. A woman who claims not to be looking for love and marriage, but who might just find a guy who understands and loves her after all in spite of her flaws.
There is much to enjoy in Miss Match by Erynn Mangum. The characters are fun and lighthearted. There are tons of movie references. (If you love romantic comedies, youll spot some favorites mentioned here I have no doubt.) It is a Christian romance novel, and readers may notice the emphasis on courtshipwith the intention of marriage as the end resultinstead of the typical modern dating style. It is the promising start to what could be a new series. Rematch, the sequel, will be released in October 2007.
