This brand-new terrifying collection includes two chilling novels inspired by Creepshow, Shudder’s anthology TV series based on the 1982 horror comedy classic. In the first story, Randy and his friend Bill discover a glowing green figure in the woods while on a camping trip. While Randy tries to make sense of what they saw, Bill denies seeing anything. He believes it was planted there by the Communists. Thus, Randy is left friendless in his fear of what’s out there. But what is it really?
The second story involves a vintage brooch that Maisie falls in love with. The only problem is that every time she wears it, she has the strangest dream. It’s of one where she’s back in Victorian times and forced to be engaged. All she wants to do is go home, but she can’t figure out how to wake up from this nightmare.
CREEPSHOW: THE CURSED contains two short stories for young adult horror fans who like to be creeped out without all the heavy reading. The writing style is simple and just like with THE TAKER, reads like a middle grade novel. The stories are unique and I love how the endings take a whole different turn from what you’re expecting. That’s one thing that’s so iconic about Creepshow and I’m glad the novels hold true to that theme.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this to young horror fans and people who like stories where they can’t guess the ending. At least I didn’t see them coming! It’s a fascinating series that fans of Creepshow will enjoy while feeling a little nostalgic reading it.
