Fascinating Creatures

Mythical Beasts: 100 Fun Facts about Real Animals and the Myths They Inspire,’ a National Geographic Kids book by Stephanie Warren Drimmer, has so many tales about creatures, both mythical and real. There are lots of real animals that seem to come from myths and legends, including a bird much like a phoenix that can rise from its ashes, animals that can camouflage themselves, and ones that can soar for extreme lengths of time or shoot blood from their eyes.

There are lots of mythical beasts in the book that any lover of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise will enjoy reading more about, including a boggart, a phoenix, and a basilisk. Even though there are not really invisible creatures like boggarts, there are see-through creatures, and that is something new and exciting for many to learn. There is also an animal called an okapi that looks like part-horse, part zebra with its different colors, and they weren’t even known about beyond the local community in which they live in the African rainforest until 1901!

Along with the tons of facts that any animal lover will truly enjoy reading, there is a facts roundup at the end of the book to ensure that no one misses anything. This Level 3 Fact Reader is for anyone who finds the animal kingdom fascinating and can’t wait to learn more about everything that exists in it!
