Kids Review: Chiller Thriller! (Junior Monster Scouts) (Joe McGee)

About This Book:

The Junior Monster Scouts befriend a lonely yeti in the hilarious seventh chapter book of the Junior Monster Scouts series!

It’s winter in the Village and a fresh blanket of snow means sledding, caroling, yummy hot cocoa, and fun for everyone. Everyone, that is, but a lonely Yeti named Igloo and cranky Baron Von Grump whose cabin is about to be whisked away by a scary avalanche! Can the Junior Monster Scouts—Franky, Wolfy, and Vampyra—save the day and make a new (and not-so-abominable) friend?

Chiller Thriller is a fun light-hearted read featuring not-so-scary monsters. The Junior Monster Scouts make friends with Igloo the abominable snowman just in time to save Baron Von Grump from an Avalanche. These friendly monsters remind me of the Disney Jr. show Vampirina and the humorous author commentary that you might find from Stuart Gibbs’ Once Upon a Tim series. This book is geared for 7-10 years but that might be a little old for the light and silly tone of the writing style. I think it would be great for 5-8-year-olds depending on whether they were having it read to them or old enough to read it for themselves. I like that the characters earned merit badges which many children that are in scouts can relate to. The ending where we know there will be a sequel with the Von Grumps sounds like it will be another fun read.
