Fun and Silly Book about Friendship and Overcoming Obstacles
In Twigs and Stones, you are introduced to Snake and Lizard who live together in a burrow out in the desert. They are such good friends that Lizard wants everyone to know so Lizard decides to display their names on the burrow. Lizard makes a spelling error when putting the sticks back up and thinks this error is hilarious but Snake doesn’t agree. So Snake decides to play a spelling trick of her own to teach Lizard a lesson. The two have to find a way to put this silly argument behind them and remember what brought these names up in the first place, their friendship.
What I Liked: This book opens by introducing you to Snake and Lizard and the friendship that they have with one another. The two of them have a great friendship but sometimes it ebbs and flows especially lately as Lizard feels that they are doing a lot of work for Snake and it seems that they are underappreciated.
This book takes you on a journey through the realistic highs and lows that come along with friendship. The book teaches you that friendship is a complicated journey and something that you have to work to cultivate as problems arise naturally. Throughout this book, you also learn the importance of friendship as one’s skills can complement another. Through this book you also learn about the complex problems that come with living with someone else, this book can help children as they learn to get along with friends or welcome new family members into their homes.
The illustrations in this book are realistic yet the size of the things have been scaled up so that the focus can be on Snake and Lizard. This book feels like you have a view of them through a looking glass so that you can see everything clearly and see the twigs that are used to make the words Snake and Lizard.
Final Verdict: Twigs and Stones is a fantastic book to teach children the impact that name-calling has on others and on your relationships with others. This book teaches compassion for others and the importance of appreciation when others care for you
