Seven Little Ducklings has such a sweet plot, teaching children to count, as well as how different families can look.
I was totally expecting this children’s book to be like the nursery rhyme “Five Little Ducks,” and if I’m being honest, we were a bit disappointed that it wasn’t.
While most adults would find the plot a bit off, let’s face it.. a mother duck would know her babies, children will find it silly.
We get to see a mother duck search the pond area for her missing seven babies, but as she searches she gets confused and takes other baby animals with her. I’d say this is a fun, child friendly way to introduce adoption, because that’s what this momma duck is doing.
The illustrations are cute and fun. They are cartoon-ish and eye catching. The color pallet is natural and very pleasing to the eye.
I think preschoolers and lower elementary school students will get a big kick out of helping the reader figure out which babies originally belonged to the mom and which she adopted; perfect as a Mother’s Day read!
