Fun and Engaging story of a New Dog Entering an Established Pack
Wagnificent: A New Dog in the Den continues with Thunder and Sage, the perfect pact, but now a new dog has been introduced. Sage is helping take care of a foster dog, Byron, and Thunder isn’t too thrilled about this. Byron doesn’t seem to know the rules and is using all of Thunder’s things and taking Sage away from her. Will Thunder be able to get along with Byron? Can they be friends?
What I Liked: This book opens with Thunder introducing how perfect her life is with Sage. Thunder continues to be the narrator throughout this book, which adds humor and levity to the story. It’s fascinating to see things through Thunder’s perspective when a new dog is introduced, and she tries explaining her behavior and reaction to this new dog. The illustrations are cute and cartoonish, adding softness to the story and making you enjoy engaging with this book.
To transition between the sections, Thunder includes some of her dos and don’ts when it comes to interacting with humans and dogs. These short pieces add some humor to the story as you see how Thunder interprets some of the things humans say to her. The closing of this book provides you with pages of facts about various types of dogs, including wolves and coyotes. These fictional facts add an aspect of learning to this story, which is perfect for children who like dogs and are eager to learn more.
Final Verdict: Wagnificent: A New Dog is a delightful graphic novel for children ages 6 and up who enjoy books about dogs. Children will enjoy reading a different perspective that makes them think about what their pets are thinking as they engage in various activities, like chasing squirrels. Adults who love dogs will also enjoy reading this one and laughing at what the dogs are thinking as they engage in fun and mischievous antics.
