Fascinating Book about Megafauna
Mega: The Most Enourmous Animals explores various different megafauna species from ones that went extinct to ones that live today. This book reviews why some of the biggest animals went extinct, what we know about their lives, and how to protect the megafauna that live amongst us now.
What I Liked: This book begins by providing you with an introduction, and then expanding on the lost megafauna and the modern megafauna before going into various subcategories of megafauna. This is further separated into mighty mammals, really big birds, rampaging reptiles, supersized fish, and monstrous mollusks. The book closes with explaining some reasons for extinctions, how to fight extinction, and a glossary of some of the words used throughout this book. For each species that is introduced, we get to learn about the biggest extinct, the biggest today, and those megafauna at work.
The illustrations throughout this book do a fantastic job of showcasing what many of these animals look like. These realistic images provide us with extraordinary details and a glimpse into what the habitat that they thrived in was like. These illustrations, paired with the text, do a great job of bringing this book to life and capturing the interest of younger readers. The text is spaced out well in between illustrations so that it doesn’t get lost or look too cluttered.
Final Verdict: Mega: The Most Enormous Animals is a fascinating book that explores various animal species, from animals that are now extinct to those that roam the earth now. Children ages 9 and up will enjoy learning about the different types of animals, and be fascinated when seeing them at wor,k such as how they catch their food and how they help the environment
