Meet T, a towering Tyrannosaurus rex with HUGE feet and an even bigger heart. Hatched millions of years after dinosaurs disappeared, T feels pretty lonely until he’s adopted by a family of chickens, his closest living relatives!

Peck, his new little brother, thinks T is a great addition to the family. Chick, his new sister, isn’t convinced. After all, T doesn’t quite fit in. At home, he breaks the playground slide and has trouble fitting in his bunk bed. At school, he knocks things over with his tail and has to sit in the very back because none of the desks are big enough for him. But one day, something special happens and this unlikely family learns that even if you don’t look the same, love is what makes a family.

T is a giant dinosaur who has just hatched, but unfortunately for him, he hatched millions of years after dinosaurs went extinct. T is pretty lonely until a family of chickens adopts him which is is thrilled about because they are his closest living relatives. T has a new little brother, Peck, who is happy to have him around, and a new sister, Chick, who isn’t too happy about sharing a home with T. T doesn’t really fit in with the family of chickens, he breaks the slide and can’t even fit in his bed, and then at school he knocks into everything with his tail, and has to sit in back since he’s too big. Though one day, Chick has a dilemna and T comes to the rescue showing her that love makes a family, not what you all look like.

What I Liked: This is a fun story that begins with the relationship that dinosaurs and chickens have. This fantastical story is fun and hilarious throughout as T tries to fit in with his new family. It’s fascinating to see how dinosaurs would get by in current time and the ways that they would have to manuver just to get by. It’s sweet to see how T just wants to fit in and how he was feeling prior to being adopted by the family.

The illustrations throughout this book are cute and help highlight the size difference between T and his new chicken family. While there is a size difference between T and the others, they each have distinct features that differentiate them from one another. These distinct features help you identify Chick and Peck throughout the story. You also get glimpses at the expressions on Chick’s face as she is annoyed with some of T’s antics and the change that occurs when he comes to her rescue.

Final Verdict: Chick and T is a heartwarming and hilarious story about belonging, friendship, and family highlighting how family supports each other at all times. Children 4 and up who like dinosaurs or chickens will enjoy this story and find themselves laughing as T is too large for many things like his bed or the desk chairs. The message of this story is sweet as you see the importance of fitting in, family, and how family is who you choose and they don’t have to look like you to receive your love.
