MIX AND MATCH: INVENTORS is a split-page book where one side has all the different ways machines can be powered and the other side talks about the machines and what they do. Allowing readers full reign, over 450 possibilities exist on how these items can be mixed and matched.

This is a fun book that explores many different combinations. There are a wide variety of machines, from simple machines used in the home to much more complex machines. There is also a variety of ways to power the machine, most of them real but a couple aren’t quite possible…yet, at least. It’s fun to flip through and see what you can create, even with things that seem to contradict one another.

Above each page is a brief description of what the kids are looking at. A quick one-sentence summary that tells them how the machine works or what provides power to the machine. There’s a bit more information on the page itself too, detailing some of the more specific details. The addition of these bits of information allows this book to feel fun, but also educational for the kids who would want to know more while reading.

Though the book appears to be geared towards kids aged 7 and up, I do think it can be appreciated by a younger audience as well. They might not fully grasp what all the different inventions and terms mean, but they can definitely have fun creating new inventions.

The illustrations are also really clean and colorful! Crisp details that look like something someone would sketch out. This manages to fit the inventor theme of the book really well.

A split-page book where the reader is the one inventing new and creative inventions, MIX AND MATCH: INVENTORS is a fun book that encourages creativity and thinking.
