A DROP IN THE OCEAN is a creative, rhyming picture book about the water cycle. The book features a poem about water that takes a drop from the ocean, warmed up into the clouds, before raining into the river and interacting with elephants and people.

What I loved: This is a soothing book that lightly touches on the idea of the water cycle, as well as the importance of water to life and humans. The book uses die-cut pages to add some interest as circles and other shapes interact with the images throughout. The text reads very smoothly, and the illustration style conveys the tone and ideas well. The animals are particularly fun to view throughout the story.

Color choice is also an interesting artistic choice with a limited color scheme contributing to the soothing nature of the poem. This is a lovely book to read aloud and view. The pages are thick, about cardstock thickness, so they work well for young children who are advancing from board books but not yet moved into picture books. The large, clear font throughout is also great for reading and sharing.

Final verdict: A DROP IN THE OCEAN is a thoughtful and soothing picture book that toddlers will enjoy experiencing for both the poetic text and lovely illustrations.
