A new novel by the Printz Honor author Garret Freymann-Weyr, about a boy who discovers what happens when love fails us—or we fail love.

Maia Morland is pretty, only not pretty-pretty. She’s smart. She’s brave. She’s also a self-proclaimed train wreck. Leigh Hunter is smart, popular, and extremely polite. He’s also completely and forever in love with Maia Morland. Their young love starts off like a romance novel—full of hope, strength, and passion. But life is not a romance novel and theirs will never become a true romance. For when Maia needs him the most, Leigh betrays both her trust and her love.

Told with compassion and true understanding, After the Moment is about what happens when a young man discovers that sometimes love fails us, and that, quite often, we fail love.

Ever since his parents' divorce Leigh Hunter has felt a little lost on the road map of life, but he still trusts that he will end up in the right place- or he does, until his stepsister Millie introduces him to Maia Morland. From the start, Leigh finds Maia interesting, though not potential girlfriend material- she is, after all, a complete train wreck. Leigh isn't certain what Millie finds so appealing about Maia, but he is greatful to her for providing stability in his sister's life and so makes an effort to befriend her.

When I heard that Garrett Freymann-Weyr had a new book out, I knew right away that I would have to read it- I've read everything she has written, despite the fact that it isn't my genre at all, because the characters she creates are amazing. What's amazing about them isn't that they seem real, though they certainly do. What's amazing is that no matter how many layers you peel off the surface, there will always be a clear character underneath.

If you're going to read this book, do it at a time when you're interested in meeting new people, because that's what reading After the Moment is like.
