Hart and Ruby were made for each other and have their whole future planned out, but life sometimes has its own plans. When Hart helps his aunt for an event, he finds himself drowning after trying to save a child. But it isn’t the end for him.
A spectating angel decides to give him a second chance and he awakens in a classmates body who had just been in an accident. While it sounds like he can get his girl back, there are stipulations. He must become Jameson and he will eventually forget everything that is Hart. But Hart isn't ready to give up when he loves Ruby with all his soul. No matter what the odds are against him, he won't let Ruby go. He just has to try to win her over as Jameson and help her see that he's still in here. With the help of his angel, Lourdes, there may be a chance, but Ruby is heartbroken.
When Ruby lost Hart, her world stopped. All these plans they had seem pointless now that he's gone. As she's still trying to process his absence, Jameson starts pestering her and hanging around. It's the oddest thing but since his crash, Jameson seems different somehow. Ruby finds herself drawn to him in ways she never has been before and it spikes her curiosity. However, more than anything, she wants to protect her heart. Can the two ever come together or is "always" really not forever?
ALWAYS ISN'T FOREVER is a young adult romance about second chances and overcoming grief. The author delves into human grief and love and takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride. Each character battles with their own thing. Hart fights with slipping into Jameson's role without losing himself. Ruby struggles to overcome her grief and find something new. Lourdes tries to understand human love and emotions. We get alternating POVs from the two main characters with a few from Lourdes and I love the insight it gives us to each person. This book will have you crying and pulling at all of your heartstrings. I enjoyed it and it makes me want to tell everyone who I love just how much I care about this.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of contemporary romance with a dash of supernatural elements and stories about grief and death. There are some trigger warnings with drowning and death. Overall, this is a heart-warming story about love and loss and I adored it as I cried with each page turned.
