Anna is a young girl living in London who is engaged to a Duke's son, Richard. When the Duke unexpectedly dies, a secret is revealed. Richard is not the eldest son. Ewan is aquainted with his step-family after making the journey from Scotland, where he has been living since his father left him and his mother. Richard becomes quite angry when he discovers this. He will do anything for the title of Duke. Even ruin his brother's life.
Meanwhile, Anna and Ewan fall in love. They try to hide their feelings for each other, but that doesn't keep others from noticing. Ewan starts collecting evidence of his brother threatening his title along with warnings from Anna. In the spur of the moment, Anna and Ewan makes plans to run away, which are foiled by Richard. Richard kidnaps Ewan and keeps his prisoner. He sends a secret message to Anna for help. Will Anna and Ewan ever see each other again?
This book is one of the best teen romances I have ever read. The historical aspects seemed correct and it was true to its time period. I didn't think that the writing was that good. But the storyline made the story interesting. The suspense added a great edge. Overall, I think that reading this book is worthwhile.
