The goddess Aphrodite was adored and feared by gods and mortals alike; none were immune to her power. Young lovers offered gifts and prayers to her, the goddess of love and beauty, in hopes of receiving her blessings....Content as one of the best athletes in her father's kingdom, Atalanta rebels against attempts at an arranged marriage. What she doesn't know is that Aphrodite has given her blessing to a race that will change everything.

Then there is Andromeda whose beauty rivals that of any goddess. She is devastated by her father's choice of a husband but Aphrodite has another plan for her too.

Finally, nobody wants to marry the beautiful Psyche. A mysterious suitor is finally found, but Aprhrodite decrees that Psyche must descend into Hades to earn his love.

In three love stories spun from Greek myths, Clemence McLaren, author of "Inside the Walls of Troy" and "Waiting for Odysseus," presents these new retellings -- with all their longing, hope, fear, and love -- from the woman's point of view.

This is a collection of three Greek love stories divided into chapters and told in the first person by three different heroines- Atalanta, Andromeda, and Psyche. They are about sixty pages apiece and each has its own title- "Running from Love", "Dreams of a Golden Hero", or "For the Love of a God". The author's note at the end contains information on romance in ancient Greece and some facts about the Greek goddess of love.

Despite my love of Greek myths, I passed by this book three times at the bookstore because of the hideous pink cover (what was the publisher thinking?). The first thing I did when I got it was remove the book jacket and I have grown fond of it, though it will never be my favorite book- but did they honestly think they were marketing a book on Greek mythology to readers of chick lit? I mean, I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but that cover is ridiculous.

That being said, I would like to clarify once more that your interest in this book will be decided by your interest in Greek mythology, not your interest in pink.
