Reader reviewed by Noel Furniss, Teen Demi-Goddess
"He dashed through the darkness, never stopping, always watchful for the menevery passing car making him leap back into the shadows of the trees on the abandoned rural highway. His form was hardly more than a shadow, sweating even in the cold, his face bruised and scarred. With every step, he knew they were gaining on him."
Magic is outlawed in the Great and Glorious City of Dunce. So how does a six year old Bran Hambric end up in a secure vault in the middle of the night? Not even Bran himself knows. Eight years later, sitting on his rooftop and waiting for a burglar, Bran finds himself face to face with most hideous creature he has ever seen. A creature that is somehow connected with the mother Bran never knew. Suddenly Bran is thrown into a whole new world, filled with magic, wonder, and terror. Now Bran must take a stand against evil and discover who he truly is.
Kaleb Nation, wherever you are, I am applauding you.
From the very first paragraph of Bran Hambric, I was hooked. Kaleb Nation has done a superb job with this debut novel. His writing is funny, creative, and sure to pull readers in page after page. To be very honest, I didn't think it would be my kind of book at first. Oh, how wrong I was. Lovers of magic and adventure should definitely give Bran a try. For any Harry Potter lovers or librarians reading this, Bran Hambric is a MUST for the reading list and shelves! The writing in this novel is so vivid in its descriptions that I felt like I was next to each character, to Bran, for every step, every hilarious and heart-wrenching adventure. I most definitely recommend this book, and to those going out in search of it, keep an eye out for gnomes!
