Joe accidently runs into Candy on the street as he was on his way to a doctor's appointment and immediately falls for her. But he soon learns that she is a prostitute and heroin addict. Still, he wishes to see her in hopes rescuing her from a life not meant for anyone. Candy's pimp, Iggy, doesn't like Joe hanging out with Candy and warns him to stay away from her. When she doesn't, Iggy beats her up.

The rest of the book is about Joe and Candy continuing to see each other and the consequences that come from it. It's also about Joe trying to help Candy leave the life she's living for a better one. I thought it was an interesting book that showed the power of young love, because without Joe, Candy would still be trapped in a dangerous world. The book kept me eagerly reading without a lull in the plot.
