Chloe wants nothing more than to join her mother in America to attend USC to chase her dream and passion for art. However, her aunt is insistent on finding her a guy so sets her up with “Kaishao” dates which is like going on blind dates. Along with the stress and pressure from her aunt, her father isn’t the most supportive person in regards to Chloe’s dreams. He’d rather her just stay in Manila with him. To make things worse, she always feels like she isn’t good enough when compared to her perfect scholar cousin. Soon, she finds herself torn about a potential romance, family traditions and wishes, and what she loves to do.

CHLOE AND THE KAISHAO BOYS is a sweet and refreshing rom-com all about family traditions and how important it is to chase your dreams. While it’s a bit predictable, I love every minute of it. It’s a comfort read that had me laughing. I was surprised how much humor was twisted into the plot and find myself wanting more books like this. There are family themes and traditions that I found fascinating, like trying to hook Chloe up with friends of the family who are culturally similar. There is also some LGBT representation that I liked as well. The author gives us a few surprises that keeps the reader wanting to know what happens next. As for the guys, there’s one that always stood out as my favorite but I really liked each part they all played.


Final Verdict: I would recommend this to teens and adults looking for a cute rom-com that’s also a very easy read. I devoured this in one sitting and it’s one of those books that leaves you feeling satisfied with how everything turns out. CHLOE AND THE KAISHAO BOYS is a coming of age story that’s also about discovering who you are and who you want to be outside of family traditions and what they expect you to become.
