After eleven books, you can really get attached to characters. In the final book of Darren's adventure, I felt like I could do nothing but stand back and watch as he discovered the truth about the little people and realized his purpose as a half-vampire, and if he was meant to be a full-blood anytime soon. The conclusion will send your head spinning and you will see all twelve books come full circle. When I finished reading, it felt like part of me was missing, only to be found in the pages of Darren Shan's Cirque de Freak series. I not only recommend this book, but the entire series, and I know I will continue to read this series over and over again until I know them from heart.
