My goodness I read this book twice once when I was 8 and again not to long ago. I loved this story. It's like just when you think your life is great well something like Deenie experienced happens. She has to go through something everything teen would dread. She has to wear a Back brace.

I would definetly reconmmend this book to all young readers. It just gives you this sense of I don't know innocence. Also like I just loved the story.

I loved this book because I could really connect to it. I dont have scoliosis, and my mother doesnt aspire for me to be a model, but I do have problems with people trying to pressure me into doing things. I also know that a lot of other girls have Scoliosis. Since it is an everyday problem that people go through, I think it is great! I also enjoy other books by Judy Blume because I like books about real people who do real things.

Judy Blume does it again with a heart-feltt young adult novel that conects with readers. Deenie is a young girl with modeling aspirations who also has scoliosis. Deenie struggles to understand what this means as she also had to deal with her overbearing mother. Her mother is determined that her beautiful daughter will be a successful model, while Deenie is just trying to understand what's going on in her life and deal with being a teenager.

Judy Blume brings and understanding of what it's like to have a mother determined to make you into something-as if you're not good enough on your own. She delicately handles the subjects of teen sexuality as Deenie tries to understand what's happening to her body.

This is a book that is intended for older teens. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone under the age of fifteen.

Deenie is the story of a young thirteen year old who has just been diagnosed with scoliosis, otherwise known as the abnormal curvature of the spine and has been told that she needs to wear a back brace until the age of nineteen. it is a sensitive look at how a young girl deals with such a change to her life. as a real life person with scoliosis who had a brace herself, i can tell you that Deenies reaction is perfectly typical. however, as the story was written in the eighties, the brace mentioned in the book is rarely ever used any more, so dont worry if you are going to get one! i liked this book because it helps raise awareness of condition where not as much is known about it as it should be by the general, and it has a sweet ending to boot!

if your thinking 'why would i want to read a book about an obscure medical condition' think again. those of you who have read other judy blume books know what a powerful writer she is and how she makes the characters come to life so that you care for them (or in the case of Deenies mother, hate them). this book is definatly worth a look.
