Looking for the fifth gem, Lief, Jasmine and Barda head towards Dread Mountain. On the way they meet Kins, which are like giant flying birds. The Kins live around a magical stream that affects your dreams. Lief has some troubling dreams about his parents - mostly his father - after drinking from the Dream Spring and he wants to go home, but continues on the quest. Getting to Dread Mountain is the easy part, once they get there they are trapped and must find a way to escape the gnomes that live there and defend there abode with poisoned arrows. The monster in this book is a huge toad who rules over the gnomes.
Pretty good book and getting back on track with the earlier books.
