Teaching kids about the science of the Sun, DID LIFE COME FROM THE SUN, is a short read at only 40 pages. Geared towards children age 5-9, the vocabulary may be above some readers’ level, but there is a glossary at the back that provides them with definitions. This book focuses on the science behind heliophysics, the study of the Sun and how it influences the solar system.

What I Loved:
This book focuses on the science behind heliophysics and how the Sun has influenced life on Earth. Starting from a time where no living things roamed the planet and reaching today where solar panels capture and use the Sun’s energy. The author carefully shows how long the Sun has existed and how it has helped form the Earth that humans currently inhabit.

The illustrations that accompany each page of this book are gorgeous. Bright colors that fit beautifully with the scenes and scenarios that the author is describing. The art is simple, but it still has details that add life to the images.

This book may use words above the suggested age range, but they seem to try to do it in a way that children will still be able to understand. At the back of the book is a glossary with definitions for harder words. There is also a pronunciation guide for some of the terms. A way to challenge students with a wider vocabulary, while also still ensuring that they are able to understand the book.

Final Verdict:
DID LIFE COME FROM THE SUN allows children to learn more about the study of the Sun and its effects on planet Earth. Age-appropriate, but possibly still challenging, vocabulary pushes readers to learn more. Beautiful illustrations allow them to connect to the text more.
