This Dish series never fails. It is written in a way that all young girls can relate to. There are no hard words and it deals with things girls are interested in: boys, school, family, friends, fashion, and most importantly food.
Amanda and Molly Moore are twins and they are bored with take-out food every night because thier parents are too busy to cook. So they decide to make thier own restaurant-like dinner, and it turns out to be a major success. Even thier little brother liked it!
They take cooking classes with thier friends Shawn and Peichi, but are let down because of Natasha, a snobby, mean girl who is never happy, but always nasty to the twins and everyone around.
Then a local family's house gets burned, and the girls get together to cook meals to last the family a week. It feels good to help. And the girls realize that Natasha has some issues with her overprotective mom. This changes everything and puts things in a new persepctive. They try to be kind to Natasha. The four girls decide to make a cooking club, to cook for thier families and others in need. The summer is looking great and the girls can't wait to get thier club going.
This book is a great beginning to this series. Young girls will love them! The characters are very fun and thier experiences are innocent and age-appropriate for young readers, which I think is great. And the recipes and food mentioned in the book sound delicious. Girls can get very into food, and its great that eating disorders are not a part of this. The book portrays food in a really good light. It teaches a good lessen: be kind to others and never be afraid to help. You'll enjoy other books in this series as well. And the illustrations are wonderful.
