I just finished reading the book Falling for Romeo by Jennifer Laurens.  It centers around John and Jen, childhood friends and neighbors who have grown far apart.  The school's production of Romeo and Juliet brings them back together, as lovers no less!  Throughout practices and performances, John and Jen learn about each other again, growing much closer.  But the play will end soon.  Will the newfound closeness end too?  Read and find out!

This book has a great concept.  I love the interactions between Jen and John. They are competitive, yet still attune to the needs and feelings of each other.  The tension in the book is unbelievable!  It was more nerve-wracking than watching a horror movie.  The tension keeps building and building until you think the book might explode!  But the release comes at the perfect time.  You know how the book will eventually end but it's a great ride getting there!  I also love how we, the readers, know the thoughts and feelings of both characters.  It makes it more exciting to see the same event in different views.  I highly recommend this book, especially for the romance lover!

This is you're typical teenage romance story. Young love, so sweet. Although this novel could easily become boring, Laurens somehow managed to keep the novel moving along, and interesting.

John's the straight A, athletic, gorgeous type, mega  popular, with major issues at home. Jennifer is the pretty girl who always owns the stage, every day family, and of course too good to kiss just any guy, even though guys want to kiss her. So of course there's tension on the stage when John, getting the lead to be with Jen, realizes that Jen isn't liking the spotlight being turned on someone else. Especially the guy she kinda, sorta, would never admit it, likes.

The book was cute, I couldn't help falling in love with John and Jen, and watching their sweet and sour moments. They were the type of couple you just wanted to scream: "Kiss already, it's obvious you loooove each other!" So when, of course, they did get together - I'm not spoiling anything, you know this was going to happen - it was one of those "finally you idiots!" moments, but at the same type you were smiling

Falling for Romeo was a sort-of modern telling of Romeo and Juliet. It also incorporated some things from Pride and Prejudice in the book.

The heated discussions between the two main characters were really good, and seeing them spat made the story interesting. Jennifer was a believable character, and you could relate to her. John was also believable and a good character.

The different POV's helped move the story along and gave you an insight on what the two main characters were feeling and thinking.

The plot was predictable, but it was still a good book. There were some typos and other errors that may cause you to put the book down. There were some consistency errors as well, and they were distracting. Also, the ending could have been a bit better. Overall, this was a fun, cute, predictable read.

Jenn and John have known each other forever. Growing up next door to each other they were best friends, until high school when they slowly starting drifting apart. John is now the most popular boy in school. Everybody wants his attention and he could have any girl he ever wanted. To Jenn, he's the boy she loves to hate as they race up the latter of accomplishments. So when he steps into her territory, that of the stage in the school's play Romeo and Juliet, the battle rages as each tries to best the other. And each fights all the harder as their pride prevents them from realizing their true feelings for each other.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It had some great themes throughout it that were perfect for the story. The continual references to Pride and Prejudice was brought up in dicussions in English, telling Jenn's and John's story through Elizabeth's and Mr Darcy's. Their toughest challenge was letting go of their pride long enough to show thie true feelings. The descriptions of the play were realistic and made you feel like you were in the audience watching along. The last showing of the play was particularly funny, with everybody playing practical jokes on others. The book was written in third person naritive, but the story was done well enough that most of the time you didnt even notice this :-) Overall a highly recomended read. Great job Jennifer!
